The Project

Repairing Cracked Drainage Without Digging Up the Ground Above.

KD Drainage inspected the underground pipework at Beaver Lane using specialist CCTV drainage surveying equipment.

The survey footage identified several defects and cracks within the pipe, allowing raw sewage to escape into the surrounding ground.

Rather than excavating the surface above and replacing the entire section of pipe conventionally, the drainage was suitable for a trenchless lining repair.

Using specialist lining equipment, a fibreglass sleeve was installed inside the existing pipe to repair the defective section from within.

The Challenge

Multiple Pipe Defects Were Allowing Sewage to Escape.

Cracks and defects within underground drainage can allow wastewater to escape from the pipe before it reaches the intended sewer route.

Because the damage is below ground, it may not be possible to understand the condition of the pipe from the surface alone.

The CCTV footage at Beaver Lane provided a direct view of the defects and confirmed that the pipe required structural repair.

The challenge was to restore the integrity of the drainage pipe while avoiding unnecessary excavation above it.

Our Solution

A New Fibreglass Lining Installed Inside the Existing Pipe.

KD Drainage used specialist lining equipment to install a fibreglass sleeve inside the defective drainage pipe.

The principle of drain relining is to repair suitable existing pipework internally rather than removing the entire pipe from the ground.

The new lining creates a repaired internal section across the defective area and isolates the damaged original pipe wall from the wastewater flowing through it.

For Beaver Lane, this meant the defects could be resolved without excavating the ground above the affected drainage run.

Why Use Drain Relining?

A Trenchless Repair Can Avoid Unnecessary Excavation.

Traditional drain replacement can require excavation to expose the damaged pipe before it can be removed and replaced.

Where the existing pipe is structurally suitable for lining, a trenchless repair can instead be installed internally through existing drainage access points.

That can reduce disturbance to surfaces above the pipe and avoid digging through areas that would otherwise need to be reinstated afterwards.

The correct repair method depends on the type, extent and position of the damage, which is why CCTV inspection is an important first step.
