Correcting a Poorly Installed Manhole and Defective Drainage Joints.

KD Drainage attended Whitehall Road after drainage problems were identified around an existing manhole chamber.

A site inspection found that the manhole had been installed incorrectly and was retaining water rather than allowing the drainage system to operate as intended.

The drain also contained several large gaps between joints. These uneven areas were allowing tissue and waste to catch inside the line and contribute to recurring blockage problems.

Rather than simply clear the drain, KD Drainage carried out corrective works to the chamber and joints so the underlying issues were addressed.

The Challenge

The Chamber Was Retaining Water and the Drainage Joints Were Catching Waste.

A drainage chamber should help wastewater pass through the system while also providing access for inspection and maintenance.

At Whitehall Road, the chamber had been installed incorrectly and was retaining water instead of allowing the drainage to flow properly through the system.

Large gaps between joints created additional snagging points where tissue could catch and gradually restrict the line.

That meant repeated blockage clearance alone would not address the underlying construction defects.

Our Solution

Reseating the Manhole, Repairing the Joints and Overhauling the Chamber.

KD Drainage removed the incorrectly installed manhole and reseated it correctly to resolve the water-retention issue.

The defective drainage joints were then repaired so the large gaps that had been catching tissue were addressed.

Unused slippers within the chamber were concreted as part of the wider remedial works.

Together, these repairs gave the chamber and connected drainage a complete overhaul rather than treating only one symptom of the problem.

Why Correct Installation Matters

Poorly Installed Drainage Can Create Repeated Problems Even When the Pipe Is Not Blocked.

Not every recurring blockage is caused by unsuitable waste entering the drainage system.

Poorly installed chambers, uneven joints or other construction defects can create points where waste catches or water fails to flow through the system correctly.

If those defects remain, simply clearing each blockage may provide only temporary relief.

This is why recurring drainage issues often benefit from proper investigation rather than repeated clearance alone.
