Kent Drainage were called to one of our domestic customers' houses in a recent callout regarding a blocked toilet. Our customer had been working away for a number of months and had come back to find a toilet blockage causing a sewage leak in his property. One of Kent Drainage’s engineers arrived on site within the hour and located the blockage in an external drainage sewer. The blocked drain was cleared using high-pressure water jetting to a private branch line upstream, to a soil-vent. The sewage was cleared up and the site was left in a clean condition, leaving one happy customer.
An indoor blockage most commonly occurs when a heavy or non-biodegradable material is flushed down the drain.
At Kent Drainage, we deal with blocked drains or an overflowing sewage system due to objects being flushed down the toilet on a regular basis. However, there are steps you can take to prevent a blocked drainage system. Whilst manufacturers may indicate on packaging that wipes, such a face wipes or baby wipes, are flushable, this is not the case the majority of the time.
What shouldn’t you flush down the toilet?
All the items listed above do not break down in the water but instead clog up your plumbing system by getting trapped in the pipes, leading to an overflow of water and potentially sewage. Therefore, the best way to dispose of these items is in the bin.
